Clondalkin Group is continuing to expand its North American plastics business with the acquisition of Cleveland Plastic Films.
Ohio-based Cleveland produces a range of flexible plastic films for banner, food and industrial applications, such as the FlameGard Tuflok one-sided printable flame-retardant film.
Clondalkin chief executive Norbert McDermott said the acquisition would enhance the product offering of its existing North American companies. "At a time when many businesses are focused on service reduction and product rationalisation, our steady investment record demonstrates our focus on continuous improvement," he said.
Cleveland is Clondalkin's fourth acquisition in North America in the past two years. It bought Accutech Films in January last year and Fortune Plastics and Toronto-based Direct Plastics in 2007.
Cleveland chief executive Jim Hendershot described the acquisition as a positive development for the Elyria, Ohio-based firm's employees and customers. "We are looking forward to developing the many customer service opportunities it presents us," he said.
Clondalkin Group's flexible packaging division manufactures multi-layer, printed and biodegradable films for the industrial, food and drink and medical markets.
It has more than 20 manufacturing locations in Europe and North America and employs more than 4,000 people.
